The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has called for stronger community support to curb the rising vandalism of power infrastructure in the Southeast.
Dr. Thomas Inugonum, TCN’s General Manager (Transmission), Enugu Region, made the appeal during a weekend sensitization tour of seven communities in Agbogugu and Ihe towns, Awgu LGA of Enugu State.
He urged traditional and youth leaders to mobilize efforts in protecting transmission lines and equipment, warning that repeated vandalism hampers electricity supply and gives distribution companies a cover for poor performance.
Inugonum also cautioned against encroachment on the 50-meter transmission line right-of-way, citing dangers of electrocution and property damage.
Community leaders pledged their support and promised to intensify local surveillance.
They also appealed to TCN to involve local youths in its operations and ensure that vandals are prosecuted.
