The Kaduna State Police Command has banned a planned birthday rally in honour of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, citing security concerns.

Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan said credible intelligence revealed that criminal elements could hijack the rally to cause unrest.

He noted that political gatherings remain suspended in the state until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), officially lifts the ban on campaigns.

The police also highlighted a clash of dates, as several political parties had already scheduled internal primaries on the same day, raising fears of possible confrontation between groups.

Organisers have been urged to shelve the event or celebrate Obi in private, non-disruptive ways.

The Command warned that anyone who defies the order will face legal action.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property and appealed for public cooperation to sustain peace in the state.
