The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has expressed renewed confidence in the Nigerian judiciary while demanding a fair trial for its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement on Thursday, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful emphasized the need for judicial independence and strict adherence to the rule of law, urging the court to base its rulings solely on facts and open proceedings.
The group drew attention to growing international interest in Kanu’s case, especially after a recent Kenyan High Court ruling on his extradition.
IPOB stressed that the trial must align with both domestic and international legal standards, particularly the principle of double criminality, which questions the legality of his rendition to Nigeria.
While acknowledging Justice Binta Nyako’s professionalism, IPOB called for fairness, transparency, and constitutional adherence.
It also reiterated its demand for Kanu’s unconditional release and urged continued international scrutiny of the trial.
