A serving corps member, Marvellous Otarigho, has donated science laboratory equipment worth N8 million to Government Junior Secondary School, Life Camp, Abuja, as part of her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), community development service.
At the unveiling on Thursday, Otarigho said the initiative was aimed at boosting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), education.
“Today is not just the unveiling of equipment, but the beginning of a journey where knowledge extends beyond textbooks,” she said.
She noted that her experience teaching basic science at the school exposed the students’ lack of interest due to the absence of a functional lab.
“This laboratory is a gift to these students; today’s learners and tomorrow’s innovators,” she added.
The gesture coincided with the 2025 Nelson Mandela Day, which encourages individuals to inspire positive change in their communities.
Director of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship at the FCT Universal Basic Education Board, Florence Wenegieme, hailed the project, saying it would bridge the gap between theory and practice.
“We have laboratories and equipment, but they are never enough. She went out of her way to mobilize stakeholders and NGOs. We appreciate her effort,” she said.
