Surveyor General of the Federation, Surv. Abuduganiyu Adebomehin, has urged young surveyors, especially polytechnic graduates, to develop strong entrepreneurial skills to succeed in the profession.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Young Surveyors Network (YSN), Adebomehin noted that while many graduates are technically sound, they often lack the business acumen to thrive in a competitive market.
“Surveying today requires more than technical skills. You must think like a businessperson. Many polytechnic graduates fall short in this area,” he said, emphasizing the need to communicate value and negotiate professionally.
Supporting this, Surv. Robert Coker, Head of Hydrography at the SGOF office, stressed that surveying has a commercial side that professionals must not ignore.
“If you don’t define your worth, others will, often to your disadvantage,” he said.
YSN Chairperson, Surv. Izuegbu Uju, said the visit aimed at mentorship and deeper industry insights, while Secretary Surv. Oluwaseun Akinpelu expressed gratitude for the guidance received.
