Former NBA star Paul Pierce has sparked outrage following controversial remarks on his podcast, The Truth After Dark, where he urged Black men to seek relationships outside the United States, claiming foreign women have better values and show more respect.
Pierce said American women, especially Black women, prioritize money and social media attention over genuine connection.
“In America, if you’re broke, you ain’t getting no love,” he said. “You gotta take them shopping, buy them something.”
He contrasted this with women abroad, saying, “Overseas, you can show up with a couple hundred dollars, and they treat you like a king.” Citing rapper French Montana’s alleged relationship with a Dubai woman, he added, “That’s what Black men need to be doing. These women overseas appreciate you. They ain’t on Instagram shaking for likes.”
Pierce also argued that online attention has made many American women too distracted for serious relationships. “You can’t compete with the internet,” he said. “These women are getting compliments all day from a hundred dudes.”
His co-host, Azar, pushed back, saying, “Not every woman is doing that. Not me. I don’t need a man to take me shopping to show love.”
She also criticized what she described as a tone of sex tourism in Pierce’s comments. “Some women will sleep with you for $25 in other countries. Over here, the price is up. That’s the only difference.”
Despite the pushback, Pierce insisted that dating abroad offers more authentic relationships.
His comments have since drawn criticism online, with many accusing him of promoting harmful stereotypes and disrespecting American women.
