Nigeria’s headline inflation eased to 22.22% in June 2025, down from 22.97% in May, marking the third consecutive monthly decline, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Experts attribute the drop to exchange rate stability and the ongoing farming season.

Despite the decline, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose by 1.68% month-on-month, slightly higher than May’s 1.53%.

Food inflation dropped year-on-year to 21.97%, from 40.87% in June 2024, largely due to a base year effect.

However, month-on-month food inflation surged to 3.25%, up from 2.19% in May, driven by rising prices of pepper, tomatoes, crayfish, meat, and plantain flour.

Core inflation, excluding food and energy, stood at 22.76% year-on-year, down from 27.4% last June, but rose to 2.46% month-on-month, up from 1.10% in May.
