Workers of Bwari Area Council are set to resume work today, Thursday, following a three-month strike over unpaid wages and welfare issues.

Emmanuel Ishaku, Chairman of NULGE Bwari Chapter, told Newsmen that resumption was delayed due to Tuesday’s public holiday and the need to fumigate office premises.

He confirmed that workers have received five months’ salary arrears.

The strike, which began on March 24, was jointly declared by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and NULGE across FCT’s six area councils.

While NUT suspended its action on July 9, NULGE followed on July 14 after intervention by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

A communique issued after a union meeting stated that 10% of the councils’ Internally Generated Revenue would be used to settle outstanding salaries.

A special committee has been set up to harmonize arrears within two weeks.
