Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has explained his absence at the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which took place Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.

Obi’s no-show had sparked reactions, as the event drew many top political and national figures.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, the former Anambra State governor cited logistical challenges.

“It was difficult to come yesterday because there was no available flight,” he said. “Even if there was, landing at Katsina Airport was not possible as it was closed due to the arrival of several dignitaries.”

Obi, however, visited Daura on Wednesday to personally condole with the late president’s family.

“Mourning continues until tomorrow, so anyone who comes today or tomorrow is still very much part of the mourning process,” he said.

His visit adds to the wave of tributes and condolences pouring in since Buhari’s death.
