Turkey has raised fresh concerns over the presence of the Fethullah Terrorist Organisation (FETO) in Nigeria.
Turkish Ambassador-designate to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, issued the warning during an event in Abuja marking Türkiye’s Democracy and National Unity Day.
Poroy said FETO blamed for the failed 2016 coup in Turkey still operates globally, including in Nigeria, particularly in the education and health sectors.
He described the group as a national security threat, urging Nigerian authorities to remain vigilant.
“They are still being arrested worldwide. Their presence anywhere poses a serious threat,” he said.
The ambassador warned that FETO often hides behind humanitarian causes to infiltrate political and bureaucratic systems.
Founded by Turkish cleric Fethullah Gülen, who died in 2024, the movement is officially designated as a terrorist group by Turkey and some allied nations. Ankara continues its crackdown on FETO-linked entities globally.
