The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a one-chance robbery gang operating in Ibadan.

The arrests followed a tip-off and quick action by officers from the anti-crime unit.

The suspects were apprehended on Sunday, July 14, 2025, along the Dugbe-Eleyele axis while attempting to rob unsuspecting passengers using a commercial vehicle.

According to police reports, the duo lured victims before dispossessing them of valuables mid-route, a method known locally as “one-chance.”

Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, confirmed the arrests at the state command headquarters in Eleyele.

He said items including phones, ATM cards, and cash were recovered from the suspects, and that investigations are ongoing to arrest other fleeing gang members.

“These criminals have terrorised residents who rely on public transport,” Hamzat said. “We remain committed to tracking and arresting all accomplices.”

Eyewitnesses commended the police response, noting that the same vehicle had been linked to earlier robbery incidents.

Victims have been invited to identify the suspects and reclaim stolen items.

The arrests come amid rising complaints from commuters about renewed one-chance tactics, especially during early and late hours.

The police urged residents to avoid unmarked vehicles and report suspicious activity via emergency hotlines.

With the suspects in custody, the command reassured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property across Oyo State.
