The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the release of Sheikh Moritada Obhakhoboh, the Chief Imam of Uromi, who was kidnapped on July 7 in the Angle 80 area of the town.

According to a statement issued Monday night by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, the cleric was freed unharmed following “intense and sustained pressure” on his abductors. He has since been reunited with his family.

Police launched a swift operation after the abduction was reported to the Uromi Divisional Headquarters on July 8.

Tactical units, working in collaboration with local vigilantes, were deployed to track down the kidnappers.

Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the joint efforts that led to the Imam’s safe return and assured the public that investigations are ongoing to bring the culprits to justice.

“No stone will be left unturned in identifying and apprehending those behind the kidnapping,” he said.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and to provide timely, credible information to support security operations across the state.
