Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, has urged Nigerians to look beyond the politics of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year administration and focus instead on his personal virtues and contributions to the nation.
Reacting to Buhari’s passing, Bishop Kukah described the former president as a good man whose life and legacy should not be reduced to his time in office alone.
“I think President Buhari should be remembered as a good man. We shouldn’t focus on his eight years of being President of Nigeria, but as a great man who made his contributions to this country as a military officer, among many other things,” Kukah said during a telephone interview with Daily Sun.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Buhari’s soul and extended condolences to his family and the nation at large.
“May God grant him eternal rest and may He give consolation to his family. Extend our sympathy, but all of us as a nation are mourning,” he added.
Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London at the age of 82. Tributes have continued to pour in from across the country, celebrating his life of service.
