A newly formed opposition coalition in Kaduna State has declared its intention to end what it calls the “era of godfather politics” and unseat Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 general elections.

The alliance comprises leaders and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At a press briefing in Kaduna, the coalition criticized the current administration for growing insecurity, rising poverty, and poor governance.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Mallam Salihu Mohammed Lukman, former APC National Vice Chairman (Northwest), said the alliance aims to restore transparency, internal democracy, and people-oriented leadership.

“This coalition marks a turning point for democracy in Kaduna. We are determined to dismantle the structures of imposition and give power back to the people,” Lukman said.

The group accused powerful political godfathers of hijacking the democratic process and sidelining the will of the people, claiming policies are shaped by a few individuals rather than public interest.

To avoid splitting opposition votes, the coalition announced plans to adopt the ADC as its common platform for presenting joint candidates in the 2027 elections.

They emphasized that this strategy is crucial to building a formidable front against the ruling APC.

Mobilization efforts have already begun across Kaduna’s 23 local government areas, with a focus on grassroots engagement, building consensus around credible candidates, and fostering trust within communities.

The coalition urged residents to reject the politics of imposition and vote for candidates based on merit, not loyalty to political patrons.

As of press time, the Kaduna State Government and Governor Uba Sani have not issued any official response to the coalition’s remarks.
