The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), exercise for the 2027 general elections will begin nationwide on August 18, 2025.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State, Professor Sam Egwu, during a press briefing in Makurdi.
Professor Egwu explained that the registration will commence with online pre-registration on the INEC website, while physical registration will follow on August 25 at INEC area offices and designated centres across the country.
The physical registration will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays to Fridays.
He said the exercise is in line with the Constitution and is designed to include Nigerians who have turned 18 since the 2023 elections, those who missed registration earlier due to absence from the country, imprisonment, or other circumstances.
It will also cater to individuals seeking to correct errors on their Permanent Voter Cards, those transferring their registration within or between polling units, and those with lost or damaged PVCs.
Professor Egwu urged citizens to take advantage of the early phase to avoid last-minute rush and warned against offering money or inducements to get registered, emphasizing that the process is completely free.
He assured the public that internally displaced persons will also be captured in the exercise.
The closing date for this phase of registration will be announced later to allow for data processing and review.
