Fuel consumers in Abuja enjoyed some relief on Tuesday as several filling stations, including those operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL, adjusted their pump prices downward.
A market survey across locations such as Kubwa Expressway, Wuse Zone 4, and Wuse Zone 6 showed that NNPCL retail outlets reduced the price of Premium Motor Spirit PMS from ₦910 to ₦895 per litre.
The ₦15 drop marks a significant move by the state-run oil firm amid growing calls for lower fuel prices.
MRS filling stations, affiliated with the Dangote Refinery, went further by cutting their pump price by ₦25 from ₦910 to ₦885 per litre-intensifying the shift in the capital’s fuel market dynamics.
Other independent marketers also made adjustments. Empire Energy and Ranoil reduced their prices to ₦915 and ₦910 per litre respectively, down from ₦935 and ₦920.
The reductions come shortly after reports emerged that petroleum marketers were planning a coordinated price cut across the Federal Capital Territory.
Marketers reportedly agreed to peg petrol prices between ₦900 and ₦920 per litre, citing supply adjustments and cost changes at the depot level.
The trend is being driven in part by two ex-depot price reductions announced by Dangote Refinery in July, which appear to be influencing retail pump prices positively.
While the latest cuts offer consumers short-term relief, analysts say long-term price stability in the downstream sector will depend on broader reforms and consistent fuel supply.
