The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has unveiled a new elite unit known as the Emergency Response Team to bolster efforts in tackling insecurity across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Commandant of the FCT Command, Olusola Odumosu, launched the team during the Passing Out Parade (POP), of 200 personnel who recently completed a basic arms handling training in Abuja.

“This elite team will serve as a quick response unit, specially trained and tactically equipped to intervene swiftly in high-risk situations,” Odumosu said. “We are deliberate in what we are doing, and our vision is clear-to build a Corps that is not only responsive but also anticipatory in approach.”

He added that the formation of the unit reflects the Corps’ commitment to adapting to emerging security threats and ensuring a proactive response to emergencies.

Speaking further, Odumosu highlighted that the intensive training undertaken by the 200 operatives is part of the NSCDC’s broader strategy to strengthen internal security through capacity building, enhanced operational readiness, and professionalism.

The new unit is expected to operate across flashpoints within the FCT, providing swift and coordinated responses to violent crimes and other threats to public safety.
