A 44-year-old man, Bashiru Saidu, was shot dead in a suspected cult clash on Sunday night in the Atan-Ota area of Ogun State.

Eyewitnesses said four armed men, believed to be members of a rival cult group, attacked Saidu, who is allegedly affiliated with the Eiye Confraternity along Bankole Onibukun Street.

He was shot at close range and died on the spot.

Police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident, stating that a distress call was received around 10:00 p.m. and officers responded swiftly.

Saidu’s body was later deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary in Ilaro.

In reaction, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, ordered the deployment of the Anti-Cultism Unit to the area to investigate and arrest the perpetrators.

Odutola said the command remains committed to ending cult-related violence and urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities.
