The Ogun State Government has confirmed that the final burial rites for the late Awujale of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, will take place today, Monday, July 14, 2025, at 4 p.m.
The ceremony will be held at his traditional residence, Ogbagba Court in Igbeba, Ijebu‑Ode .
Oba Adetona, aged 91, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025. His 65-year reign, since his coronation on April 2, 1960, stood among the longest in Nigeria, marked by his dedication to cultural preservation, infrastructure expansion, and educational and health advancements .
In a statement released by Secretary to the State Government Tokunbo Talabi, residents were urged to remember the royal family in their prayers during the mourning period .
Oba Adetona’s passing coincides with the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, both on July 13, prompting widespread national reflection on their legacies.
