The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 23-year-old woman, Grace Godwin, whose body was discovered by the roadside in the Jabi area of Abuja.

Godwin, a fuel attendant in Mabushi, was reportedly returning home from work on Friday evening when she boarded a commercial vehicle.

Her lifeless body was found the following morning near Iya Abubakar Street, sparking fears she may have fallen victim to the notorious one-chance syndicate terrorizing commuters in the city.

FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a phone conversation on Sunday.

“The police were informed about the incident and we went there to recover the body. Investigation is ongoing,” she said.

According to sources close to the family, the suspected abductors had contacted them to demand ransom shortly after Godwin boarded the vehicle.

However, she was found dead hours later.

Police operatives conveyed her remains to the National Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

The family has since identified her body, and an autopsy is expected to help determine the exact cause of death.
