Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of worsening economic hardship and betraying Nigerian workers.

In a post on his official X handle, Atiku said Tinubu’s “hasty” fuel subsidy removal triggered “an economic avalanche,” burying Nigerians under inflation, hunger, and despair.

He criticized the federal government’s failure to fully pay wage award arrears promised to civil servants pending a new national minimum wage.

“At ₦35,000 monthly, the Federal Government still owes four months; that’s ₦140,000 per worker,” he noted.

Describing the administration as “callous” and “indifferent,” Atiku praised state governments that have managed labour issues better.

He also condemned the arrest of labour activist Andrew Uche Emelieze, calling for his immediate release.

“His only crime was speaking up for workers. Nigerian workers will not be silenced or forgotten,” Atiku declared.

His remarks come amid growing public frustration over the cost of living and perceived insensitivity from the federal government.
