Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has confirmed he is considering leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Amid growing speculation about a potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adeleke, through his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, stated that he is still consulting widely before reaching a final decision.

In a closed-door meeting held at the Government House Banquet Hall, Adeleke met with top PDP stakeholders in Osun, including his deputy, cabinet members, advisers, and federal and state lawmakers.

At the end of the meeting, the PDP caucus passed a vote of confidence in the governor and pledged to follow him should he choose to leave the party.

“Osun PDP leadership caucus passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ademola Adeleke, unanimously supporting any decision the governor takes on the growing rumour of defection to another political party,” Rasheed said.

The meeting drew representatives from various arms of the PDP and the state government, including National and State Assembly caucuses, party executives, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), and elder statesmen.

A communiqué issued after the meeting confirmed that Governor Adeleke had briefed party leaders on his ongoing consultations.

It added that the leadership resolved to support him regardless of any political move he may make.

Taofeek Ajilesoro, South-West PDP Vice Chairman Engr. Kamorudeen Ajisafe, PDP State Chairman Hon. Sunday Bisi, and former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, among others.
