The Labour Party (LP), is facing fresh internal turmoil following a secret meeting between factional National Chairman, Julius Abure, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The meeting, held Sunday at Wike’s private residence in Abuja, has sparked outrage within the party, especially among supporters of Peter Obi, the LP’s 2023 presidential candidate.
It comes amid heightened tensions over the Abure-led faction’s recent call for Obi to resign, accusing him of aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), coalition.
While details of the meeting remain undisclosed, its timing has raised eyebrows, with many interpreting it as a calculated move to undermine Obi’s influence and deepen the party’s internal divisions.
Wike, a key figure in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but serving in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led cabinet, has long been accused of stoking discord within rival parties.
His engagement with Abure is fueling speculation of external interference and strategic maneuvering aimed at destabilizing the LP and weakening the opposition ahead of future elections.
The alliance between Abure and Wike, amidst growing infighting within the Labour Party, signals further uncertainty over the party’s unity, credibility, and electoral prospects moving forward.
