Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 50th Independence Day celebration of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe.
According to a statement from the Presidency on Friday, Shettima will depart Abuja on Saturday, July 12, for São Tomé, the capital of the island nation, to join other African and global leaders at the grand finale of activities marking the country’s Golden Jubilee.
The celebration will feature official speeches, military parades, cultural performances, and traditional dances, showcasing the nation’s rich heritage and unity.
Nigeria and São Tomé and Príncipe maintain a strong bilateral relationship, especially in joint resource development in the Gulf of Guinea, under the Nigeria-São Tomé and Príncipe Joint Development Authority.
Nigeria has also extended technical and humanitarian assistance to the island nation, including support during the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Tinubu, who recently attended the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is expected back in the country soon.
