Tight security and roadblocks paralyzed movement around the Berger area of Lagos on Saturday morning as the state conducted its local government elections.

Security personnel, including police officers, soldiers, and FRSC officials, blocked major access roads, enforcing the restriction of movement announced earlier by the Lagos Police Command.

By 7:32 a.m., long queues had formed as vehicles were turned back, leaving many commuters stranded and forced to trek long distances.

Some travelers, unaware of the restriction, expressed frustration. “We didn’t know there was an election. We just arrived from Port Harcourt and are heading to Ikeja,” one stranded passenger said.

Despite his explanation, security agents refused him passage.

The Lagos Police had announced a statewide restriction of movement from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. to ensure a peaceful and orderly election across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
