Lagos witnessed unusually deserted roads, including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Saturday, July 12, 2025, as local government elections took place across the state.
From early morning, major routes like Alausa Secretariat, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, and Berger remained empty due to movement restrictions imposed by security agencies to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
Police officers were stationed at strategic points, turning back non-essential vehicles.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), had earlier announced a restriction of movement from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., urging residents to stay within their communities and vote peacefully.
Though some polling units recorded slow starts and delayed materials, voting proceeded without violence.
Observers reported a calm atmosphere, with hopes high for a peaceful and credible grassroots election.
