Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel believes the Blues have what it takes to cause an upset against Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final.
The highly anticipated final will take place at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where European champions PSG and Chelsea will clash for the inaugural title of the expanded tournament.
PSG booked their place in the final with an emphatic 4-0 demolition of Real Madrid, scoring three goals in the first 30 minutes before sealing the win with a fourth late in the game.
Chelsea, on the other hand, advanced after a 2-0 victory over Brazilian side Fluminense, with new signing João Pedro scoring both goals against his former club.
Despite PSG being the clear favourites, having already secured a treble and dominated in both the UEFA Champions League and Club World Cup, Obi Mikel believes Chelsea are capable of pulling off a surprise.
Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Nigerian international said:
“If any team can beat this PSG side, I think it’s Chelsea.
The way we’re playing, the team that we’ve got, it’s a very good young squad that can compete.
One thing Chelsea have is athleticism. They’ve got pace and power and that’s key when playing against teams like PSG.”
The final promises to be a thrilling encounter, with Chelsea hoping to claim the historic title and topple a star-studded PSG side.
