The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the death of three officers, including an Inspector, during a gun duel with suspected bandits along the Zogirma-Tilli road in Bunza Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Saturday, July 12, 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the attack occurred around 7 p.m. on Friday following intelligence that armed bandits were spotted in a nearby forest, allegedly planning to abduct travelers.

Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer of Zogirma led a tactical team supported by operatives from the No. 36 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Birnin Kebbi to confront the threat.

The officers engaged the armed suspects in a fierce gun battle. While several of the assailants were reportedly neutralized and others fled with injuries, three officers were fatally shot.

He assured the public of the Command’s ongoing efforts to secure lives and property across the state.

“The Command will not relent in its duty to protect Kebbi residents,” he said, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

The police offered prayers for the repose of the deceased officers, hailing them as heroes who died defending the people.
