The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has strongly condemned a public notice issued by the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), claiming the loss of ownership documents for two plots of land in Abuja, identified as MISC 54707 and MISC 54824.

In a statement released on Friday, NLC President Joe Ajaero described the claim as “mischievous, utterly ridiculous, or at best an act of ignorance,” insisting that the disputed plots are solely owned by the Congress.

NSITF had on Thursday announced the loss of key property documents, including the Certificate of Occupancy, Power of Attorney, and Deed of Assignment related to the land.

Responding, Ajaero maintained that the NLC has always maintained full possession and control of the said properties, adding that NSITF’s claim lacks any legal or factual basis.

“It is trite knowledge that one cannot claim loss or issue a loss notice over that which one has neither possessory nor proprietary right,” the NLC said.

The labour union called on NSITF to immediately retract the notice, warning that while it is not yet pursuing legal action or damages, it reserves the right to do so if the agency fails to comply.
