The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced plans to launch an online portal to streamline the registration process for associations seeking political party status in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Thursday, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said the initiative aims to make registration faster and more efficient.
The new portal, part of the Commission’s Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System (PFRAS), will replace the current manual application process.
Olumekun revealed that INEC received seven new applications last week, bringing the total number of requests to 129.
“The Commission is introducing a political party registration portal to make the process faster and seamless,” he said, noting that final testing of the system will be completed within a week.
Olumekun added that detailed guidelines will soon be released for associations that meet the criteria to advance to the next stage of registration through the new platform.
He also disclosed that the updated list of applicant associations has been published on INEC’s website and other official platforms for public awareness.
