The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), has attributed the delay in June salary payments for some federal civil servants to a technical glitch affecting accounts domiciled with Zenith Bank Plc.
In a statement released Friday, Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the OAGF, explained that the issue disrupted salary payments across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
“Upon investigation, it was discovered that a network issue in the bank caused the failure,” Mokwa stated. “We understand the frustration this has caused and deeply regret the inconvenience.”
The OAGF assured affected workers that it is working closely with service providers and stakeholders to reprocess all failed transactions without further delay.
“Concrete steps have already been taken to isolate the problem, and arrangements are underway to ensure swift payment,” Mokwa added, urging civil servants to remain calm.
He also noted that after resolving the June salary issue, the government would continue disbursing the outstanding four months’ N35,000 wage award arrears to eligible workers.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and efficiency, the OAGF pledged ongoing engagement with stakeholders to improve payroll operations.
“The welfare of Federal Government employees remains our top priority,” the statement concluded.
