Botswana head coach, Alex Malete, has vowed that his team will give their all to defeat Nigeria’s Super Falcons in their crucial Group B clash at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The match is scheduled for today at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.
Following a disappointing loss to Algeria in their opening game, the Mares must avoid defeat to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.
Another loss would see them exit the tournament in the group stage, just as they did during their WAFCON debut in 2022.
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons head into the encounter with confidence after their dominant 3-0 victory over Tunisia on Sunday.
The nine-time African champions are strong favourites to win the tie.
Speaking ahead of the game, Coach Malete expressed optimism despite the odds.
“Today’s game against Nigeria is an opportunity we cannot afford to miss,” Malete said during a press conference in Casablanca. “We didn’t start well against Algeria. Now, we must fight for every moment, every second, from the first to the last minute.”
