Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, has launched a free surgical outreach aimed at providing life-saving medical interventions for underprivileged residents of the state.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Mrs. Abiodun urged wealthy Nigerians to support initiatives that uplift the less privileged, especially in the healthcare sector.
The outreach, organized in collaboration with a team of US-based surgeons and medical doctors, will offer free surgeries for conditions such as hernia, fibroids, goitre, and cataracts.
Mrs. Abiodun noted that her longstanding partnership with the medical team has expanded the impact of the annual outreach.
She also announced the donation of a multimillion-naira endoscope machine to the hospital by the team.
The machine is expected to aid in early detection of internal abnormalities and cancers.
Leader of the medical team, Dr. Musbau Kasumu, said the initiative is designed to complement the state government’s healthcare delivery efforts.
He encouraged Nigerians to adopt preventive healthcare practices by checking their blood pressure and blood sugar levels regularly and undergoing routine screenings.
Chief Medical Director of OOUTH, Dr. Oluwabunmi Fatungase, commended the initiative, noting that the outreach and equipment donation would significantly enhance access to quality healthcare and early cancer diagnosis in the state.
