Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, has revealed that the 2013 merger of opposition parties contributed just 3.2 million votes to the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s 2015 presidential victory.

Speaking at the launch of Garba Shehu’s book ‘According to the President’, Mustapha said the bulk of APC’s winning tally came from Muhammadu Buhari’s loyal vote base, which accounted for 12.2 million votes in previous elections.

Despite the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), holding more states before the merger, Mustapha said the coalition chose Buhari as the consensus candidate based on electoral strategy, not political bargaining.

He stated that Buhari’s popularity, integrity, and disciplined message were crucial to unseating the incumbent and creating a historic political shift.

Mustapha’s remarks challenge popular narratives and reaffirm Buhari as the main force behind APC’s 2015 success.
