The Taraba State Government has formally launched a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the causes of communal clashes in Karim Lamido Local Government and other affected areas across the state.
The Commission, inaugurated by Governor Agbu Kefas, held its maiden sitting on Wednesday at the Taraba State High Court Complex in Jalingo.
Chairman of the Commission, Justice Silas Haruna, described the assignment as a national duty aimed at promoting peace, justice, and sustainable development.
He emphasized the importance of community participation and announced that the Commission is now accepting memoranda from individuals, communities, and groups.
“We call on all stakeholders, particularly from the affected areas, to submit their testimonies, complaints, and suggestions on or before July 17, 2025,” Justice Haruna said. “This Commission belongs to the people. Its success depends on openness, transparency, and inclusiveness.”
He added that following the review of submissions, the Commission would hold broader consultations with traditional rulers, security agencies, civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders to chart a lasting path to peace.
Justice Haruna assured the public of the Commission’s neutrality and commitment to fairness, stating that no one would be intimidated or victimized during the process.
“We are here to seek justice, not to take sides. The Governor has emphasized the need for impartiality, and we will uphold that,” he said.
He also urged Commission members to carry out their responsibilities with diligence and integrity, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver on the mandate.
