Despite losing over 70 members in a deadly ambush, vigilante groups in Plateau State have vowed to continue their fight against bandits and kidnappers.

The attack, which occurred on Monday in Kukawa (Kanam LGA), and Bunyun village (Wase LGA), targeted local vigilantes who had mobilized to confront criminal elements terrorizing their communities.

Abdullahi Hussaini, a leading vigilante commander in Wase, declared their determination to press on.

“We will never surrender to the bandits and kidnappers,” he said, describing the casualties as painful but not discouraging. “This fight continues until these criminals repent, leave our land, or are completely defeated,” he added, calling on Nigerians to support their efforts through prayers and solidarity.

In a parallel move to strengthen rural security, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has deployed 150 newly trained agro-rangers to protect farmers and food supply chains across Plateau.

At their passing-out parade on Tuesday, the governor emphasized the importance of farm security in achieving national food security.

He praised the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), for initiating the agro-rangers scheme and pledged continued collaboration with security agencies.

The NSCDC Commandant-General, Dr. Ahmed Audi, reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to supporting Plateau State, especially in safeguarding farming communities from insecurity.
