The Federal Government has restated its commitment to ending child labour and ensuring access to education for every Nigerian child.
At a press briefing in Abuja on July 8, 2025, officials expressed concern over the growing number of out-of-school children engaged in hazardous work, especially in rural and low-income areas.
The government said it is collaborating with states to fully implement the Child Rights Act, aiming to remove children from unsafe labour and return them to classrooms.
Efforts will include public awareness campaigns, enforcement of child protection laws, and support for vulnerable families.
“No child should have to choose between education and survival,” said the Minister of Labour and Employment, who emphasized that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty.
This renewed drive, the FG noted, is part of a broader effort to build a safer and more equitable future for Nigerian children.
