Senator Ireti Kingibe has said that residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are dissatisfied with Minister Nyesom Wike’s leadership and will express their displeasure at the forthcoming council elections.
Speaking on Channels Television on Monday, July 8, 2025, Kingibe accused Wike of ignoring the real needs of the people.
“The people of the FCT resent Wike. They are unhappy with his attitude and lack of action,” she said, calling the elections a referendum on his performance.
Her remarks come amid reports of neglect in rural communities. In Chetta, Gaube Ward (Kuje Area Council), residents are forced to rely on contaminated water from an abandoned mining site due to lack of clean water.
Civic tech group Monitng raised concerns about health risks, especially for women and children, citing repeated government promises that remain unfulfilled.
Residents now see the upcoming polls as a chance to demand better governance and improved basic services.
