President Bola Tinubu has called on BRICS nations to ensure fairness and full inclusion of developing countries in global systems, particularly in governance, finance, healthcare, and climate action.

Speaking at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tinubu emphasized the urgency of addressing global inequalities, noting that Africa contributes the least to global emissions yet suffers the most from their effects.

“Nigeria must be an active participant in global conversations on debt relief, climate change, and health,” he said, adding that youth-focused solutions are vital, as 70% of Nigeria’s population are young people.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to Vision 2050 and climate goals, highlighting efforts in renewable energy and healthcare.

Tinubu urged BRICS to go beyond economic cooperation, calling the bloc a platform for “solidarity, self-reliance, sustainability, and shared prosperity.”

The president was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar and Finance Minister Wale Edun.
