The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has clarified that the $50 fee associated with the new Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN), platform applies only to Nigerians in the diaspora and not to residents within the country, for whom BVN registration remains free.
Hakama Ali, the CBN’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, explained that the fee is not for the BVN itself but a processing charge covering secure biometric verification, data handling, and remote enrollment logistics.
She added that the amount represents a reduction from the previous $200 fee.
“The NRBVN is a voluntary, secure platform designed for Nigerians abroad,” she said, urging the public to disregard misleading reports suggesting new or excessive charges.
Ali emphasized that the NRBVN is part of CBN’s broader digital transformation agenda and encouraged Nigerians to rely on official CBN and NIBSS channels for accurate information.
