The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the killing of a man at Gosa Market along the Abuja Airport Road.

The victim was accused of stealing yam tubers before being lynched; a development that triggered panic among traders, shoppers, and residents.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Adewale Ajao, confirmed the arrests during a press briefing, describing the case as a clear act of murder.

He said police officers responded swiftly to restore peace and prevent further escalation.

“Immediately after the incident, we engaged the community leader. The traditional ruler was also with us. We discussed what happened, and they saw the need to embrace peace,” Ajao said.

The market has since resumed full operations under heightened security, with police personnel deployed to maintain order.

The Commissioner assured residents of continued efforts to enhance community engagement, intelligence-led policing, and public awareness to counter emerging security threats.

Ajao also highlighted other recent achievements by the command, including the arrest of 82 criminal suspects, 17 suspected kidnappers, and the recovery of 21 vehicles.

Police also foiled several kidnap and robbery attempts, rescued three children from traffickers, and provided support to 10 rape victims.
