The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has confirmed receiving 12 additional applications from groups seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number of applicants to 122.

This development follows INEC’s earlier announcement that 110 associations had submitted letters of intent.

In a statement issued on Thursday, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said the full list containing names, acronyms, addresses, and interim leadership has been published on the Commission’s official website.

“The Commission is processing these applications transparently and fairly to all applicants,” Olumekun said, disclosing that one group had already replaced its interim secretary following defection.

INEC cautioned aspiring parties to maintain consistency in leadership and contact details, warning that any irregularities could stall the registration process.

In a related development, Olumekun announced the release of Supplementary Regulations No. 1 to guide the review of election results under Section 65 of the Electoral Act 2022.

“Given the various interpretations surrounding Section 65, the Commission has exercised its legal powers to issue clear guidelines,” he said, adding that the procedures and timelines are now accessible on INEC’s website.
