A Dangote cement truck lost control and rammed into several vehicles at the Nyanya-Maraba Bridge on Thursday evening, causing panic and severe traffic disruption in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The crash, which occurred around 6:25 p.m. on July 3, 2025, was reportedly caused by brake failure while the truck was descending the steep Kugbo slope, according to a statement by the Federal Emergency Management Department (FEMD).
Nkechi Isa, Head of Public Affairs at FEMD, confirmed that the truck ploughed through at least 15 vehicles near the Karu checkpoint during the evening rush hour.
Emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene, evacuating injured victims to nearby hospitals. While no fatalities were recorded, several people sustained various degrees of injuries.
FEMD assured the public that the situation had been brought under control, and traffic was gradually being restored.
The department praised the rapid response of emergency services and urged truck drivers and transport companies to prioritize regular vehicle maintenance, especially for heavy-duty trucks.
Residents also called on authorities to enforce stricter safety inspections for commercial vehicles using high-risk routes in the FCT.
