The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has announced a 100 percent increase in the prize money for the winner of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), in Morocco, raising the top prize to $1 million.

The total prize pool for the tournament has also been increased by 45 percent, now standing at $3.475 million.

CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, said the move reflects the organization’s strong commitment to developing women’s football across the continent.

He expressed optimism that the increased earnings would contribute to better salaries for players, coaches, and support staff, adding that the quality of women’s football in Africa continues to improve and now meets global standards.

Under the new structure, the runner-up will receive $500,000, while the third and fourth-placed teams will get $350,000 and $300,000 respectively.

Each of the four quarter-finalist teams will take home $200,000.

Teams that finish third in their group will receive $150,000, while those that finish fourth will get $125,000 each.

The revised prize money structure highlights CAF’s ongoing efforts to promote women’s football and provide greater financial incentives for national teams participating in the tournament.
