The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2025, in observance of U.S. Independence Day.
In a statement issued by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, the closure is in recognition of the annual American holiday commemorating the nation’s declaration of independence from British rule in 1776.
While consular services will be temporarily suspended, normal operations are scheduled to resume on Monday, July 7.
The mission advised U.S. citizens in Nigeria to plan accordingly and utilize designated emergency contact channels if necessary.
The Fourth of July, widely celebrated across the United States with fireworks, parades, and patriotic events, is also recognized by U.S. diplomatic missions globally.
The announcement reflects the embassy’s compliance with U.S. federal holiday observances, even while serving abroad.
