Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, has called for dialogue and unity in addressing the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), FCT Wing, over the implementation of the new national minimum wage for primary school teachers.
In a statement issued in Abuja by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the minister acknowledged the concerns raised by the NUT and emphasized the critical role teachers play as the foundation of Nigeria’s education system.
Dr. Alausa said the ministry had carefully reviewed the communiqué released by the NUT FCT Wing after its Emergency State Wing Standing Committee (SWSC), meeting held on March 22, 2025, in Gwagwalada.
While reaffirming that the administration of Local Education Authority (LEA), primary schools in the FCT is the responsibility of the six area councils and their respective LEAs, the minister stressed the need for cooperation and resolution.
He reiterated the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to the welfare, dignity, and professional development of teachers at all levels, urging all stakeholders to work together to resolve the lingering crisis.
