Another tragic building collapse has occurred in Lagos, with several victims hospitalised following the incident.

The building, located along Adeniji Adele Road in the Isale Eko area of Lagos Island, collapsed overnight, prompting a swift response from emergency services.

Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigerian Police, and other first responders rushed to the scene in the early hours of the morning. Rescue operations are still ongoing.

According to an update posted on LASTMA’s verified X (formerly Twitter), handle, victims trapped beneath the rubble have been successfully rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.

The number of casualties is yet to be confirmed as emergency workers continue search-and-rescue efforts.

To ease traffic congestion around the area, LASTMA has redirected vehicles from Zenith through the Oba’s Palace route to Enu Owa.

The affected site has been cordoned off to allow for uninterrupted rescue operations.

While the exact cause of the collapse has not yet been officially determined, preliminary concerns point to structural weaknesses and the age of the building, recurring issues on Lagos Island where several similar incidents have occurred in recent years.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with emergency responders as investigations continue.
