An 11-year-old almajiri boy, identified as Nura Bala, has tragically drowned in a river at Gada-Biyu village, Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to a resident, Suleiman Bello, the incident occurred when Nura and two other teenagers went swimming.
The boys reportedly jumped into the river from a bridge, but Nura failed to resurface.
Bello said the other boys rushed home to alert residents, who immediately mobilized to the river for a search operation.
The boy’s body was later recovered around 6:12 p.m. by local fishermen and has since been buried.
Another resident, Malam Muazu, told journalists that parents had repeatedly warned children against swimming in the river.
He revealed this was the third drowning incident in the area within a year.
“Two boys drowned in that same river last year, and now another almajiri boy has died in the same manner,” he said.
Meanwhile, the police confirmed that the incident was not officially reported to the station.
