Flooding has claimed six lives in Gombe and Borno states following the onset of the rainy season.
In Gombe State, four people, including children and teenagers, drowned in separate incidents across Akko, Kwami, Funakaye, and Yamaltu Deba local government areas.
The victims reportedly died in rivers, erosion sites, and unprotected water channels.
The spokesperson of the Gombe State Police Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the incidents in a statement issued in Gombe on Sunday.
In Borno State, two women were killed by floodwaters in the Woods Community of Damboa Local Government Area.
Additionally, heavy rains destroyed several houses in Rumours, Askira Uba Local Government Area, displacing numerous families.
Governor Babagana Zulum, through a statement by his media aide, Dauda Iliya, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and pledged support for those affected.
The latest tragedy comes less than a year after severe flooding devastated several communities in Borno, resulting in multiple fatalities and widespread damage to homes and farmlands.
