Nanloong Daniel, representing Mikang Constituency and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been elected as the new Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.
His emergence follows the resignation of Gabriel Dewan, the former Speaker and the only lawmaker from the Young Progressives Party (YPP), in the Assembly.
Daniel was unanimously elected during an emergency sitting held at the temporary Assembly Complex in Jos.
He previously served as Majority Leader in the 9th Assembly.
Sources indicate that the leadership change was preceded by a closed-door meeting involving Governor Caleb Mutfwang, former Speaker Dewan, and other lawmakers.
The meeting reportedly sought to address the political tensions that have lingered in the state.
The emergency session was presided over by Deputy Speaker Gwotta Ajang, who facilitated the smooth transition of leadership.
Dewan’s resignation is viewed as a strategic move to restore stability and cohesion within the Assembly.
